So I really enjoyed this movie. The CGI and effects for the storms and natural disasters were really well done, especially for an early 2000's movie. Though the CGI for the animals in the movie, particularly the wolves could have used a bit more time and love. The characters were actually really believable. I loved that this movie didn't focus around a 'hero' persay, like you see in a lot of action movies like this one, but instead a scientist. I'm so used to watching and seeing movies about natural disasters or the end of time and the hero being an ex military service member or a firefighter or something. This time we got a scientist and he does have some background in how to take care of himself in extreme weather, but it just felt so much more realistic and more like the every day person. On the other side of things, I did feel like the family aspect of this movie was done a bit lazily and even felt a bit out of place at times. I would have liked a bit more background or development in this area. This being said, it wasn't the worst I've ever seen, just a bit listless. I loved the action and adventure but did feel like parts of the movie was rushed. It had a nice thriller feel at particular points in the film which was enjoyable. But even with that being said, I felt like the end of the movie came out of nowhere. I would have liked it to be wrapped up a bit more with the producers going a bit more in depth with ending the plot than just, "CUT!". All in all it was an enjoyable film and now I want to read about the last ice age that human kind survived. | |
